Nigerian Author Okediran Heads To London with “Madagali”

Nigerian Novelist Takes Conflict Narrative to Global Audience
RENOWNED Nigerian medical doctor and novelist, Dr. Wale Okediran, is set to take his acclaimed novel Madagali to the United Kingdom this winter as part of a London book tour celebrating African storytelling and resilience in the face of conflict.
The tour will feature public readings, moderated conversations, media engagements, and book signings across major literary venues in London and beyond. Readers will have the opportunity to engage directly with Okediran as he discusses the inspiration behind Madagali, a novel that explores displacement, love, patriotism, and survival amid Nigeria’s protracted insurgency in the North-East.
Dr. Okediran, a former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and current Secretary-General of the Pan-African Writers Association (PAWA), has authored more than a dozen books. His works, translated into several languages, have earned him major literary honours, including the ANA Prize for Fiction and fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.
Published in Nigeria by Evans in 2021 and in the UK by Abibiman Publishing in 2022, Madagali is set against the backdrop of the Boko Haram insurgency. The novel follows Bukar Salisu, a young Nigerian soldier torn between duty and love while confronting the brutal realities of asymmetric warfare. Literary scholar Prof. Abubakar Othman has described the book as “a manual for the study of military intelligence and guerrilla warfare.”
Okediran will read from Madagali at Daniel Ford, London, on 18 December; The Africa Centre, London, on 19 December; and Swansea, Wales, on 26 December, with prominent writers and scholars moderating the sessions.
