MINISTER of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, has appealed for calm following the life imprisonment of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. In a message posted on X, she said she returned from Tanzania to the unexpected news of Kanu’s conviction, describing it as a difficult but present reality.
Ojukwu urged Igbo communities and Nigerians to avoid actions that could heighten tensions, stressing that this is a moment for restraint and sober reflection. She called for collective dialogue involving governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, clergy, and business leaders to pursue a political solution to Kanu’s case.
She assured that prospects for resolving the situation remain, asking South-east leaders to work together toward a unified engagement with the government.
Kanu was convicted on seven terrorism charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja and sentenced to life imprisonment. He has reportedly been moved from the DSS facility to a prison in Sokoto, though the agency has not commented on the transfer.
