9,514 Killed, 7,175 Abducted In 10 Months — Security Expert Warns Of Deepening Crisis

NIGERIA recorded 9,514 deaths and 7,175 abductions between January and October 2025, according to Dr. Kabir Adamu, Chief Executive Officer of Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited.
Speaking on ARISE News, Adamu said the data, drawn from five years of monitoring security incidents, shows that violence in Nigeria is not religiously motivated but driven by multiple armed groups across the country.
He revealed that 2,831 Christians and 6,709 Muslims were among those killed, while 1,251 Christians and 5,934 Muslims were abducted. “There are about 80 distinct threat actors in Nigeria, including around 78 terrorist groups. Each operates for different ideological or criminal reasons,” he explained.
Adamu noted that while attacks on churches and mosques have declined in 2025 compared to 2024, insecurity remains severe. “If 9,000 people are killed in just 10 months, that’s a national tragedy,” he said, adding that Nigeria’s low ranking on the Global Peace Index reflects its ongoing instability.
He blamed weak governance and lack of accountability among the country’s 42 security agencies for the crisis. “Accountability, accountability, accountability — that’s the solution,” Adamu stressed.
The security expert also cautioned Nigeria to maintain neutrality in global power rivalries and prioritize its own economic and security interests.
He concluded that meaningful progress in tackling insecurity depends on reforming the national security system and enforcing accountability at all levels.
