88% Of Nigerians Now Using AI, Report Shows

Nigeria Emerges as a Global AI Leader
NIGERIA has emerged as a global front-runner in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, according to a joint report by Google and Ipsos titled “Our Life with AI.” The study shows that 88 per cent of Nigerian adults have interacted with an AI chatbot, far exceeding the global average of 62 per cent and marking an 18-point increase from 2024.
The research highlights how Nigerians are leveraging AI strategically. Around 93 per cent use the technology to learn complex topics—well above the 74 per cent global average—while 91 per cent use it for work-related purposes. Additionally, 80 per cent employ AI to explore new business or career opportunities, nearly double the global rate of 42 per cent.
Sentiment toward AI in Nigeria is overwhelmingly positive. The report notes that 91 per cent believe AI is enhancing learning and access to information, and 95 per cent foresee benefits for university students and educators. Eighty per cent of Nigerians are more excited than concerned about AI’s potential, compared to a roughly even global split. Among frequent AI users, enthusiasm rises to 90 per cent.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications & Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, said the findings reflect a nation actively shaping its future. “It’s inspiring to see how Nigerians are creatively and purposefully using AI to unlock new opportunities for learning, growth, and economic empowerment,” he remarked. The report positions Nigeria as a standout emerging economy using AI as a catalyst for development.
