THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benue State has reported that 432 people died in 533 road crashes between December 15, 2024, and January 15, 2025.
Sector Commander Steve Ayodele disclosed this during the flag-off of the 2025 Ember Months safety campaign in Makurdi, themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.”
Ayodele attributed the crashes to driver fatigue, overloading, unsafe transport of passengers in haulage vehicles, and carrying fuel in plastic containers. He emphasised that human error remains the leading cause of road accidents.
He urged motorists to obey traffic rules and commended the media for supporting the FRSC’s road safety enlightenment efforts.
