2027: Group Rallies Support For Okowa’s Senate Comeback

Support Group Intensifies Campaign for Okowa’s Return
A political advocacy group, the Hilary Support Group, has stepped up calls for former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, to contest for a Senate seat in the 2027 general elections, citing his experience and track record in public service.
The appeal was made in Abuja during a dinner organised for members of the Lion’s Family, where the group’s convener, Hilary Ibegbulem, outlined the rationale behind the push.
Experience at the Core of the Campaign
Ibegbulem, a former Principal Secretary to Okowa, described the ex-governor as a seasoned administrator whose extensive experience across different levels of government makes him well-suited for legislative responsibilities.
He highlighted Okowa’s career trajectory, which includes roles in local government administration, service as commissioner, Secretary to the State Government, and two terms as governor of Delta State.
According to him, such a background provides the depth of knowledge required to navigate complex legislative processes and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Reference to Previous Senate Tenure
The group also pointed to Okowa’s earlier stint in the Senate, where he represented Delta North Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015, as evidence of his legislative competence.
Ibegbulem argued that Okowa’s prior experience in the upper chamber positions him as a candidate capable of providing stability and informed leadership, particularly at a time when governance challenges require experienced hands.
Mobilisation Efforts Underway
The support group said it is already mobilising resources and grassroots networks to build momentum for Okowa’s potential candidacy.
“We are calling on our leader and mentor to heed this appeal and return as a high-ranking senator,” Ibegbulem said, adding that members are prepared to commit both energy and resources to the campaign.
Call for National Service
The appeal was framed as a call to national service, with Ibegbulem urging Okowa to accept what he described as a responsibility to contribute once more at the federal level.
He expressed confidence that the former governor’s return would strengthen legislative governance and provide strategic direction in the National Assembly.
Awaiting Okowa’s Response
Despite the growing calls, Okowa has yet to publicly respond to the appeal, leaving uncertainty over whether he will enter the 2027 race.
Political observers say his decision could significantly shape the dynamics of the Delta North senatorial contest, given his established influence and political network.
