18 Games, 1 Year: Super Eagles In Elite Workload Club

By FRED LONGJOHN OBEH
THE Super Eagles of Nigeria were among the most active national teams globally in 2025, featuring prominently on the international stage throughout the year. Nigeria recorded a total of 18 international matches, placing them in the same category as DR Congo, Oman, Tunisia, Uganda, and the United States.
The heavy schedule was driven by Nigeria’s involvement in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, World Cup qualifying fixtures, and a series of international friendly matches. These engagements provided the technical crew with extended opportunities to test squad depth, assess emerging players, and refine tactical cohesion.
Morocco led all countries with 26 matches, followed by Algeria with 23 games, while Saudi Arabia and Sudan each played 20 matches. Senegal completed 19 fixtures, just one more than Nigeria. The demanding calendar also reignited discussions around player workload and injury management, particularly as international fixtures continue to expand.
