10,000 Delta Widows Receive February Stipend Under State Welfare Scheme

Stipends Disbursed to Widows Across Delta
ABOUT 10,000 widows benefiting from the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have received their February 2026 monthly stipends from the Delta State Government.
Beneficiaries drawn from communities across the three senatorial districts gathered for prayer and thanksgiving sessions in appreciation of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for sustaining the social welfare programme.
The prayer sessions were led by the Coordinator of the scheme and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Isioma Okonta, who visited the senatorial districts alongside members of the management team.
Supporting Vulnerable Families
Speaking during a visit to the Delta Central Senatorial District in Okpe Local Government Area, Okonta emphasised the importance of the welfare initiative in supporting vulnerable widows across the state.
He said the scheme was designed to help beneficiaries meet basic needs while restoring dignity and financial stability to families that had lost their breadwinners.
According to him, the programme aligns with the governor’s development blueprint known as the MORE Agenda, which prioritises social welfare and inclusive growth.
Okonta noted that the consistent payment of stipends had provided relief to thousands of widows and helped strengthen community support networks.
Prayer Sessions Across Senatorial Districts
During the gatherings, beneficiaries offered prayers and thanksgiving for the governor, expressing appreciation for his administration’s efforts to improve their welfare.
Many widows described the stipends as a lifeline that had helped them cope with daily living expenses.
Participants prayed for continued blessings and success for the governor, saying his administration had helped “wipe the tears of vulnerable widows” across the state.
Beneficiaries also commended Okonta for his leadership of the scheme, particularly for ensuring the prompt payment of stipends and facilitating regular meetings between widows and their area coordinators.
Visits to Delta South and Delta North
Similar prayer sessions were held in Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area within Delta South Senatorial District, as well as in Ndokwa West Local Government Area in Delta North Senatorial District.
Okonta explained that the tour also served as an opportunity to further sensitise beneficiaries about the objectives of the MORE Agenda and encourage them to support the policies of the state government.
He urged the widows to act as ambassadors of the programme in their communities by promoting unity and participation in government initiatives.
Endorsement of the Governor
A highlight of the events across the districts was the endorsement of Governor Oborevwori by beneficiaries of the scheme.
The widows pledged their continued support for the governor and expressed hope that the welfare programme would continue to expand in the coming years.
Members of the scheme’s management team who accompanied Okonta on the tour included Uko Martins, head of the Delta Central Monitoring Team; Felix Ofuo, head of the Delta South Monitoring Team; Ahmed Atumremuro; Chief Administrative Officer Sunday Achike; Project Accountant Ogaga Kelvin; Training Officer Henry Ifeogwu; Project Assistant Chioma Okunebe; Ndokwa West Coordinator Omude Ochonogor Ochibe; and Isoko North Coordinator Carolyn Usikpedo.
